The Role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a cutting-edge data centre project that prioritizes sustainability and compliance with international standards. You will be creating a Legacy and setting a new benchmark for how data infrastructure should be built and managed.

Role Overview:

The Data Centre Architect will oversee the design and construction of a new data centre project, ensuring that it meets the latest sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) considerations and complies with international/EU standards and guidance.

The role encompasses various aspects including construction, cooling, power requirements, backup power, external and internal security, fire suppression systems, and data centre management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Planning: Lead the architectural design and planning of the data centre, ensuring alignment with sustainability and ESG goals.
• Construction Oversight: Manage the construction process, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Cooling Systems: Design and implement efficient cooling systems to maintain optimal operating temperatures and maximise sustainability.
• Power Requirements: Define and oversee the implementation of power requirements, including renewable energy sources.
• Backup Power: Ensure robust backup power solutions are in place to guarantee uninterrupted operations.
• Security: Develop and implement comprehensive external and internal security measures.
• Fire Suppression: Design and integrate advanced fire suppression systems.
• Data Centre Management: Identify, recommend, procure a data centre management systems for efficient operations and monitoring.
• Compliance: Ensure all designs and operations comply with international EU standards and regulations.
• Designing for the future: all designs should maximise flexibility taking account of potential changes in use cases or capability. ie AI workloads

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience in designing and managing data centre projects in UK or overseas.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including cooling, power, and security systems.
• Sustainability Knowledge: Strong understanding of sustainability and ESG considerations in data centre design and operation.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with international EU standards and regulations.
• Project Management: Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

• Certifications: Relevant certifications or demonstrable experience in designing to standard like LEED, BREEAM, ASHRAE or similar.
• Renewable Energy: Experience with integrating renewable energy sources into data centre designs. It is particularly desirable if the candidate has experience with Solar energy provision.
• Advanced Security: Knowledge of advanced security technologies and protocols.
• Fire Safety: Expertise in fire safety and suppression systems.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in data centre management software and tools.
• Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience managing cross-functional teams.
• Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing technologies and industry trends.
