About the Role

We are looking for an experienced survey specialist to lead our primary research activities. Primary research is a foundational input to the GSMA Intelligence data and insight deliverables . It is also leveraged by many diverse GSMA teams for generating their own insights be those about GSMA members, GSMA employees, or the broader technology ecosystem .

This new role will be responsible for coordinating primary research activities across GSMA teams, while acting as a subject matter ex pert where required . Operationally, this will include working with internal teams to develop and deliver surveys which are optimized for the best results . Where these surveys are fielded by a partner, managing the external research suppliers so that they deliver as expected will also be required . Leveraging domain knowledge about primary research best practices and methodologies will be critical.

The ultimate objective is to ensure that GSMA Intelligence and GSMA primary research activities yield the optimal results , for the GSMA and for our members and customers.

Initially, the role will focus on existing survey efforts including the GSMA’s Consumer Survey, Operator in Focus Series, and Enterprise Vertical Survey. Going forward, the Lead Analyst o f Primary Research will be expected to support, but also suggest, new primary research activities which would benefit the organization.

About You

A new position for the GSMA, the Lead Analyst o f Primary Research role will provide an impressive set of opportunities for the right candidate. It will also require a unique set of skills.

• Survey Expert . You will serve as the GSMA’s survey expert , working closely with domain experts in the GSMA Intelligence team and throughout the GSMA to design surveys, and iterate on existing surveys to maintain relevance.
• Project – Focused . You will manage multiple annual survey projects, both internally and with third-party suppliers, to directly support GSMA Intelligence and related GSMA workstreams. You will tak e ownership of the survey lifecycle including scoping, costing and project management .
• Data-Oriented . You will manipulate, disseminate and present data for use by the team leveraging appropriate tools (EG, SPSS , Excel and PowerBI ) .
• Innovative . You will d evelop innovative approaches to derive insights from survey data (e.g. indices, cluster analysis, statistical models), and undertake related modelling work to support commercial data outputs .
• Proactive Team Player . You will take the lead on driving your primary research expertise into opportunities across the GSMA and GSMA Intelligence teams rather than only waiting for inbound support requests. You will support on related research projects involving data analysis and data visualisations where required .
• Constant Learner . You will support innovation efforts and GSMA primary research excellence by continually upskilling and building your expertise , including maintaining relationships with national and international statistical bodies to validate our work; establishing relationships with other data organisations to generate additional value and outputs via collaborat ion ; engaging in training where appropriate .
• Self-discipline. The role demands a considerable level of self-discipline and self-management. It also demands someone willing and able to excel in a team environment that is dynamic.

Capabilities:

While the Lead Analyst of Primary Research role will focus primarily on optimizing the GSMA Intelligence and GSMA survey efforts, the ideal candidate will need to possess a broad set of technical and soft skills.

• Survey Expertise . Several years of expertise in managing/leading primary research for a company or research/consulting organisation or statistics house. E x tensive , and up to date, knowledge of survey best practice including sample selection, survey design, topic and scripting development , quality control, etc. Experience with fieldwork agencies will be beneficial to help oversee and sense check survey design, deliverables, and effective price negotiations where necessary to extract maximum value .
• Survey Tools . Working knowledge of survey d evelopment tools including Qualtrics.
• Data and Analysis Tools . W orking knowledge of data analysis tools used to turn survey results into actionable insights including Excel, SPSS, Power BI and geospatial analysis tools.
• Communications . Proven track record o f communicating primary research findings and insights in a compelling and easy to understand manner via written research and presentations.
• Stakeholder Management . Experience in working with diverse interests – internal and external – to meet the needs of teams which may have orthogonal interests. Passion for finding win-win outcomes which bring teams together.
• Project Management . A history of success in executing complex , multi-party primary research products including project scoping, internal and external stakeholder management, budget development and management, delivery and results development.
• Innovative mindset : Expertise in innovating survey stra tegies and tools, thinking holistically about how to turn surveys into valuable assets for the organisation and for our customers .
• Team work ing : Ability to work closely with different internal and external stakeholders . This requires proactivity and ability to overcom e potential issues and contrasting opinions , Comfortable to work in a matrix environment
• Writing skills : E stablished expertise in writing questionnaires that are efficient and effective, and in turning survey data into written reports and presentations. Public speaking skills ideal .
• Multi-lingual capability . Working fluency in multiple languages , particularly Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic or Mandarin . Not required but highly desirable.
• Time management : ability to manage your time in an effective way as working on multiple projects and with multiple stakeholders may require prioritisation and time efficiencies .
• Telecoms Domain Expertise . Knowledge of telecoms or technology sectors a plus
