The team
Schroders’ Business Transformation Solutions (BTS) team is Schroders’ internal management consultancy function. The function provides Strategic Solutions to the entire Schroders Group, across a range of service lines such as strategy and business model design, target operating models, shaping & support for large-scale complex transformation, business architecture and people transformation.
What you’ll do
As a Management Consultant in the BTS Team:
Type of work:
As a management consultant you will be involved in a range of consultancy assignments and other activities which may include:
Strategy:
• Using strategy formation approaches to facilitate the definition of business strategies through working with relevant business stakeholders
• Development of vision statements and business models for discrete business areas
• Research initiated to address gaps in knowledge relating to a specific business issue.
• The creation of Target Operating Models (TOMs) for discrete business domains and functions, using standard Schroders methodology, which leverages our business architecture and operational excellence tool kits
• Business analysis to support capability design, process analysis and organisational transformation.
Change Management:
• Creation of business cases for initiatives under consideration, with the aim of concluding on the potential value add / cost-benefit analysis of embarking on that initiative. (Encompasses financial analysis, definition of business drivers, assessment of risks etc.)
• Shape, influence and play a leading role in complex strategic initiatives
• Shape, design oversight and advisory to the Steering Committee for projects / programmes of work with the aim of ensuring successful delivery and maintenance of strategic programme objectives
• Partnering with business and programme teams to clarify priorities, stakeholder management, design governance, and TOM implementation activities.
• Advisory on the Schroders’ Change portfolio, and creation of high-level plans / roadmaps to implement change.
Business Architecture:
• Leveraging Schroders business architecture to strategically align, accelerate and de-risk change to our operating model
• Developing our business architecture tools and methodologies, to ensure it continues to deliver value, mature and become further embedding across the change lifecycle.
Responsibilities of the role: As a Managing Consultant in the Business Transformation Solutions team you will be expected to:
• Lead the delivery of consulting assignments and/or assist with very large / complex assignments.
• Contribute to business development and prioritisation of the pipeline of potential change initiatives.
• Build positive relationships with GMC / GMC-1 level stakeholders within the organisation.
• Operate as a role model for the rest of the Business Consultancy team through leading by example.
• Influence the agenda for the team through leading service proposition design, thought leadership and the injection of innovative ideas and ways of thinking.
• Challenge conventional wisdom and freely expressing their own opinion.
• Potentially undertake line management for other members of the Business Consultancy team.
As a member of the People Transformation Practice your role will primarily focus on the people and organisation dimensions of the BTS remit outlined above. This will specifically include:
Organisational Design:
• Current and future state activity analysis and design
• Current people risk assessment to assess future impacts of change
• Organisational design activities within agree frameworks.
Business Case Development
• Current versus proposed future state costs
• One-time employee costs (retention and redundancy)
• Production of Exec level business case for proposed people transformation.
Communication
• Development of communication strategy and approach
• Development of communications plan and materials – slide packs, speaker notes, Q&As, logistics, runbooks for multiple people communication events for each programme.
Change Support
• Recommending appropriate support for current employees with change and other coaching and development materials
• Partnership with HR and Schroders professional career transition support service providers.
Support for People Transition
• Partnership with Talent Acquisition to develop recruitment strategy and approach
• Production of required artefacts including organisation charts, job descriptions Tracking monitoring and reporting on ramp up in target location(s)
• Provide input on and maintain role displacement (take-down plans), sequencing and tracking of current employees
• In partnership with HR provide guidance to senior managers on the HR and people communication aspects including track of attrition and mitigating measures for legacy
• Support HR and executives on aspects such as Social Plans in European countries.
• Liaison and support to HR through redundancy process (scripts, business case input, schedules).
Support for Business Transition
• Knowledge Share – creation of process inventory, training material and training plans
• Training – onboarding, on the job training, shadowing existing team
• Handover – orchestrate the staged handover of responsibility for processes
• Live Support – post live support for new team
Responsibilities of the role: As a member of the People Transformation Practice in the BTS team you are expected to:
• Support the creation of People Transformation as a new capability for the BTS team by both gaining experience of supporting and leading People Transformations yourself whilst also providing valuable input into the creation of a playbook and associated training material and templates
• Support the embedding of People Transformation as a core skill across the whole of the BTS team over time
• Deputise for the Practice Lead where required
• Have input into setting the strategy, mission statement, 3-5 year ambition and definition of the People Transformation Pipeline and practice book of work.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
• Over 7 years of experience in a (management) consultancy role, or as high-performing analyst in an investment management environment
• Investment management experience gained primarily in Buy Side organisations, across a number of areas, such as:
o Different Investment business lines, such as Public Markets (e.g. Equities, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset), Private Markets (e.g. Private Equity, Real Estate, Private Debt) and Wealth Management
o Key functions of an investment manager, e.g. Front, Middle and Back Office, Distribution, Product Development, Technology and Corporate Functions
• Knowledge of the Investment Management value chain and end to end processes (client onboarding, product development, portfolio management, implementation, investment operations, fund administration, reporting, etc.)
• Experience leading large and complex consultancy assignments
• Established track record of strategy development, operating model definition and large scale change implementation
• Experience with proposition and thought leadership development
• An understanding and experience of iterative delivery methodologies, such as Agile and Scaled Agile
• Experience of line management
• Understanding of change management disciplines, processes and tools, such as:
o The key stages and lifecycle of change delivery
o Stakeholder Management and communication
o Planning and progress tracking mechanisms
o Monitoring and managing issues, risks and dependencies
o Governance and reporting
• Experience of business architecture
• Experience of Lean / Operational Excellence
• Experience leading and supporting People Transformation initiatives
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
• Educated to a minimum of first / Bachelors degree
• Professional or higher level degree qualifications (e.g. CIMA, CFA)
• IMC
• Relevant Change Management qualifications (e.g. Agile/Scrum, Prince II).
