The Global Disinformation Index was born out of this need for data, specifically the need for transparent, independent neutral disinformation risk ratings across the open web. Thus, GDI was established in 2018 as a not-for-profit entity built on the three pillars of neutrality, independence and transparency.

The Role

GDI is seeking applicants for an Senior Intel Analyst who specialises in open-source intelligence. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, can successfully navigate complexity and ambiguity, make informed decisions, knows when to reference documentation and when to ask for advice, and leaves things better than they found them.

In this role, you will analyse and communicate your insights to various internal and external audiences, as well as monitor and research disinformation trends.

Main Responibilities

• Maintain general but extensive presence on alt- and mainstream social media to stay apprised of and be able to perform detailed research relating to disinforming trends, specific state and non-state actors or threats, emerging and ongoing information campaigns etc.
• Source raw intelligence and produce finished reports for GDI’s intelligence customers.
• Maintain codebooks, lists, and training data on GDI’s growing list of adversarial narrative topics in support of the continued development of GDI’s automated data platform.
• Develop relationships with intelligence partners to provide data or insights that augment GDI’s internal intelligence capabilities, either on certain platforms or in certain geographies.
• Support GDI’s publicly facing advocacy and education work, including creating blog posts, research reports, etc., often in collaboration with partners.
• Support knowledge sharing between the Intelligence Team and other GDI teams.
• Work with data scientists, intel analysts, product managers, and client partners to formulate, research, and analyse solutions to counter online disinformation.
• Compile and communicate analytical reports to internal and external audiences using open-source intelligence, statistics, visualisations, and other methodologies.
• Managing staff & hiring of permanent, contract staff and interns, as needed.
• Stand-in resource planning and prioritisation for the Intel team.
• Provide ad hoc research support across teams where needed.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

• 4+ years intelligence analysis / research (OSINT is desirable).
• Experience managing cross-functional teams, leadership experience; and multiple concurrent projects.
• Experience working in diverse, cross-functional teams, including with data scientists, engineers, and product managers.
• Established familiarity with issues related to disinformation, misinformation, propaganda, and extremism.
• Advanced research and data gathering techniques and tools, including maintaining anonymized access.
• Concise, effective writer and communicator in English.
• Transparent, empathetic, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent presentation, writing, and research skills – ability to construct technical reports and communicate analysis to a wide range of audiences.
• Experience interacting with and supporting customers.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, complex business, as well as willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
• Experience with standard collaboration tools including G Suite and Slack.
• Knowledge/willingness to learn new technologies for remote-working.
• Professional fluency in English (written and spoken).Professional fluency in French and/or German (written and spoken).

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

• Training in advocacy or policy research, statistics, social or information sciences, or international diplomacy.
• Problem solver and doer; someone who just “steps up”.
• Experience with, and desire to, work in a virtual team.
• Professional fluency in other languages in addition to those stated above.

Useful Information

• LOCATION: Remote working. Candidates based in the UK, Germany or the USA (ideally in New York or Texas) are preferred.
• REPORTING TO: Intelligence Manager (Based in the UK)
• HOURS & TERMS: Working hours are flexible. This is a 1.0 FTE position (37.5 hours per week). As a global organisation, some flexibility for cross-time zone communication to be available for limited virtual meetings outside of office hours is required. Competitive salary benchmarked to and based on location.
