Job Description:
We are seeking a creative, profit focussed individual who wants to drive growth and build material new business at Barclays.Working closely with the Head of Carbon & Environmental Products Trading, you will drive the expansion of our trading capability, building a leading trading franchise across multiple compliance markets in carbon & environmental products.
Working in a rapidly evolving business, you be able to successfully navigate complex and dynamic regulatory environments, build effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders and maintain a strong focus on delivering material and sustainable revenue contributions.This role is a challenging position with excellent opportunities for development and leadership both within Carbon & Environmental Products Trading and Barclay’s wider Markets business.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily trading activity for the Carbon & Environmental Product trading business, market making and risk managing positions across multiple markets (physical and financial) in a risk controlled, capital efficient and cost-effective manner
Act as a subject matter expert on Carbon & Environmental Product Trading within the bank, working closely with colleagues to promote the franchise with internal stakeholders and building credible pathways for new business development
Develop deep technical, market, and technological expertise in order to build dynamic trading strategies, position for opportunity ahead of market evolution and pivot quickly in response to any regulatory change
Manage interface with clients/brokers/exchange to ensure best execution is always performed and the desk always remains aligned with rules and regulations across all trading venues and platforms in which it operates
Work closely with Fundamental and Quantitative analysts to build a leading analytics capability, regularly devising and implementing trading strategies, ensuring optimal risk management and issuing value add commentaries that strengthen and further embed the banks the client franchise
Drive strategic growth – whilst initial focus will be to build a leading EU-ETS and UK-ETS trading business, there is significant scope and expectation to grow our capabilities and build a material portfolio beyond this common starting point.Expect to leverage the client franchise and use your expertise to develop new products and additional market entries that drive sustainable long-term revenue
Proactively work with supporting teams, especially Operations and IT, to develop systems and architecture that enable the desk to accurately capture, manage and settle physical and financial contracts and effectively scale operations as the business grows
Key Requirements
Significant front office experience in carbon, energy or low carbon markets with an excellent and well proven track record of revenue delivery
Deep understanding of carbon & environmental compliance markets, well attuned to policy and regulatory developments across the EU and UK and solid comprehension of wider markets and expansion opportunities (e.g., ETS2, CCAs/RGGI, REDII & Renewables certificates)
Proven track record in developing innovative structured deals in Carbon & Environmental Products, successfully taking them through the life of a deal process from approval through to execution and ongoing risk management
Highly entrepreneurial with significant appetite to play a leading role in developing an agile, high performing business that expects to consistently grow and innovate against the backdrop of rapidly evolving environmental markets and policy
Outward leadership – proven capacity to build and participate in highly-engaged, results focussed and productive teams that bring out the best in others
Strong relationship management skills with a well evidenced ability to build trust and credibility at the most senior levels internally and externally
Sharp technical expertise in derivatives trading and fundamentals, well evidenced by strong problem-solving abilities and a proven track record of quantitative analytics to drive enhanced revenue generation
Solid comprehension of Article 6, voluntary carbon, and the fundamental drivers and policy pathways that can help establish transactions and flows between voluntary markets and compliance schemes
Ability to quickly see beyond scope of own team towards opportunities and connections across Barclay’s wider markets and sustainable finance businesses
