Role Overview

As a User Researcher, you will help clients understand their users and make evidence-based decisions. You’ll plan and deliver research activities that uncover user needs, behaviours and pain points, ensuring services are designed around real user insight.

Working within multidisciplinary Agile teams, you’ll translate research findings into actionable recommendations that improve products and services. You’ll also champion user-centred design and help organisations embed research-led ways of working.

Experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) environments is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

User Research

• Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative research.
• Select suitable methodologies based on business and user needs.
• Facilitate interviews, surveys, usability testing, workshops and other research activities.
• Ensure research is inclusive and representative.

Analysis & Insights

• Analyse and synthesise findings from multiple sources.
• Identify patterns, opportunities and risks.
• Produce clear recommendations and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Present insights to delivery teams and senior leaders.

Service Improvement

• Create and contribute to:
  • Personas
  • User journeys
  • Empathy maps
  • Service blueprints
  • Research reports
• Collaborate with UX Designers, Service Designers, Business Analysts, Product Owners and Delivery Managers.
• Support usability testing and iterative improvement.

Accessibility & Stakeholder Engagement

• Promote inclusive research practices.
• Support delivery of accessible services aligned with WCAG 2.2 principles.
• Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Advocate for the value of user research and evidence-based decision making.

Agile Delivery & Community

• Contribute throughout discovery, Alpha, beta and live phases.
• Support continuous improvement through ongoing research.
• Participate in Triad’s User-Centred Design Community of Practice.
• Share knowledge and support development of research capability across the organisation.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Strong experience conducting user research across the service life cycle.
• Experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods.
• Ability to analyse research findings and communicate actionable insights.
• Experience facilitating interviews, workshops and usability testing.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
• Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of accessibility and inclusive research practices.
• Experience working with GDS standards and public sector digital services.
• Ability to influence decisions through evidence and insight.

Desirable

• Experience creating personas, user journeys and service blueprints.
• Familiarity with tools such as Dovetail, Mural, Microsoft Forms, Optimal Workshop or UserZoom.
• Knowledge of Google Analytics or similar tools.
• Understanding of UX design and prototyping processes.
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Qualifications

A degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Research, Social Research, Design or a related discipline is desirable. Relevant industry certifications are advantageous.

Security Clearance

Candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain SC Clearance.

To be eligible, you must have the right to work in the UK and normally have been resident in the UK for at least five years.
